Dryer Vent, Maintenance, Resources + Tips

How Often Should I Clean My Dryer Vent?

Dryer vent cleaning is cleaning of the flexible duct between the dryer and the point where the vent exits the house. Over time this duct may become filled with dust and lint from the dryer, and cleaning helps improve airflow from the dryer, increase energy efficiency, and reduces the risk of a dryer fire.

Your dryer vent should be cleaned every 6 to 12 months depending on how much your dryer is used. A build up of lint and debris looks like this:

Between cleanings:

  • Check your dryer vent every few months to ensure that it is not blocked or full of lint.
  • If your dryer is taking an unusually long time to dry, or if clothes are always damp, your dryer vent may be clogged
  • You can check your dryer vent by moving your dryer away from the wall and detaching the flexible duct from the back and looking into it.
  • If you have a short duct directly to the outside and a shop vac, you may be able to clean the duct out quite easily on your own.

What Our Customers Have To Say

A big shout out to Andrew and Aaron from Alberta Furnace Cleaning. My husband and I had recently renovated our home and were noticing a fine dust on everything that I couldn’t keep up with. Andrew and Aaron came in and cleaned the furnace, air conditioning unit and all the duct work. It was shocking to see what the found - construction debris, dog toys, tennis balls etc. They definitely have the equipment to thoroughly clean the mechanical and duct work. Both workers used care in removing vent covers, and cleaned all surfaces, properly replacing the grills when done. They were on time, efficient, polite and respectful of ourselves and our home. I could not be happier.

Recently had my furnace cleaning done. The fellas were great! They called ahead of time so I could put the pup outside, they were polite and quick. When they came inside they wore protective booties so they kept the floors clean. They also fixed my dryer lint trap when cleaning out the dryer!! It was missing a screw so the lint was going where it wasn’t supposed to. They also let me know that having both furnace and a/c, my filters should be changed 2x a year - not something I was ever told by furnace install company who “services” my furnace on a paid plan! So Alberta Furnace probably saved me a lot of money and headache down the road. 10/10 would definitely recommend this company and crew. Will definitely use them again.
