Your air conditioning system has two parts – an external cooling unit and an internal evaporator coil. We clean the internal portion. The air conditioning evaporator coils that are right above the furnace in the main warm air plenum. We must clean the air conditioning coils to ensure that the the entire system is clean. If we don’t clean the coils, the dust and debris would blow right back in the ductwork. Additionally, clogged fins can lead to poor air flow (and therefore poor cooling performance), the accumulation of ice, and even damage to the coils.
We do not clean the air conditioning unit outside the home because it is not a part of the duct system. Many manufacturers recommend simply rinsing the external unit with a hose, and using a cover to prevent soiling during the seasons it is not in use.
Your AC coil is located in the ductrwork above your furnace. Depending on the installer and whether it was put in with a new furnace, or added afterwards, there may be a built in access panel, or we may need to create one.
The short answer: no.
The long answer: We always guarantee our work. Since the entire HVAC system is connected, we have to clean every part of the system including all vents, furnaces, HRV’s, and yes – the air conditioning coils. A complete cleaning prevents dust and debris from returning to the cleaned parts of the system and will prevent frequent visits from us (even though we’d love to see you)!
