Humidifier Pad Replacement
- Do I need to replace my humidifier pad, or can I just wash it?
- Flow-through humidifiers have a pad that needs to be replaced generally about 1x per year, as they become encrusted with deposited minerals from the water.
- Humidifier pads should be REPLACED and NOT washed, because the pad may have a hydrophilic (absorbent) coating or anti-bacterial coating that wears off with washing and over time.
- How often should my humidifier pad be replaced?
- You should check your humidifier every 30-60 days for visible signs of build up.
- Generally it is recommended that pads are replaced once per humidification season – which if you usually only use your humidifier in winter, would be once per year.
- This does depend on how much you run your humidifier, and how hard your water is, which is why checking it every month or two is your best course of action.
- TIP: add a monthly reminder to your phone to check both your furnace filter + humidifier pad
- Can Alberta Furnace Cleaning replace my humidifier pad?
- We are pleased to sell and install replacement pads that fit most styles of flow through humidifiers. We offer this service as an add on to our regular furnace & duct cleaning services.

- When we replace the pad, we will also do a visual inspection and simple test to confirm the unit is functioning.
- Can Alberta Furnace Cleaning clean my humidifier?
- While we will do our best to wipe around the area and ensure water flow in your humidifier, our humidifier pad replacement service DOES NOT include a full cleaning on the unit
- Cleaning your humidifier usually requires a soak and scrub involving vinegar or CLR to remove mineral build up
- Can Alberta Furnace Cleaning repair or replace my humidifier?
- We do not perform repair, maintenance or cleanings to the humidifier unit itself
- It is recommended that from time to time you visually inspect your humidifier to ensure there is not excessive build up of scale in the unit, and that all parts are working as intended
- You should consult the user guide for your specific make and model for maintenance/cleaning instructions
