An “HRV” or Heat Recovery Ventilator is a feature of your heating system that helps to better capture energy from exhaust air from your furnace and transfer it to the fresh air coming in from outside.
It has two separate air handling systems:
HRV’s are often located high on the wall above your furnace and resemble a cold air return grille.
Since an HRV is part of the HVAC system, we must clean them to guarantee the whole system has been cleaned. We clean the unit itself by removing and cleaning the heat exchange core and fans.
Your HRV will have 2 filters, one on each side, and they should be vacuumed, washed & dried at least every 2 months. Consult your HRV’s owner’s manual for more on how The Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) maintains air quality in your home.
